Designer Spotlight: Antonio (Tony) Regidor
June 15, 2015
This weeks spotlight we are highlighting Antonio (Tony) Regidor. A self-taught designer from Spain, Tony was first inspired by his love of classic cars. His shop has since expanded into his interest in SciFi, with amazing miniatures, home and gadget accessories, and he also creates lovely jewelry, allowing him to create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces for his daughter! With so many different sections, there’s surely something for everyone thanks to Tony’s imagination and skills.
Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? Where are you located?
I’m a technical journalist involved in the motorbike world. 3D designing and printing is my hobby, not my job. I’m a science fan, I love technology, the 3D world, classic cars and motorcycles, motorbike riding, the PC and Android world, photography. I love fixing things… And I need everything I do to be perfect! I’m from Barcelona, Spain, and I love my city too.
What’s the story behind your designs? What inspires you?
I’m a Ferrari fan, a classical car fan, so this was my first inspiration. And I’m a sci-fi fan and a modeler, so I’ve started designing parts to upgrade my under-detailed plastic model kits. The jewelry section is born because my daughter asked me to design some rings for her. And I’m also designing things for my home and classic car inspired things that are currently unavailable!
What brought you to 3D printing with Shapeways?
The idea to create something on my computer and bring it to life in metal (through the internet) was definitively impressive for me. Also, all the materials available, the possibility to create a shop, a very easy system and lots of small thing drove me to stay with Shapeways.
WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT THIS SHOP:
- Variety of products
- Good photography
- Sections for easy shopping
- Fun branding
Thank you, Tony! Keep up the great work – hope your daughter loved the jewelry.
Favorite Designers:
I’m impressed with the work of Bathsheba, vertigopolka, bholddesign, ksims… I love their math designs and home solutions! I’m not aiming at that kind of designs as I’m not so skilled!
If you weren’t limited by current technologies, what would you want to make using 3D printing?
Repairable parts that are currently unavailable; why get rid of something that can be repaired? But the plastics and finishes have to improve a lot, and the prices have to be cut down!
